Commission meeting and visit to Geneva, Switzerland

Commissioners from the Global Commission for Modern Slavery visited Geneva this month to strengthen partnerships with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and other UN agencies working to end forced labour and human trafficking. The visit formed part of the Commission's commitment to advancing multilateral cooperation and implementing the recommendations from its newly launched report.

During the visit, the Commission held high-level meetings with senior representatives from the ILO, IOM, OHCHR and UNHCR to share findings from the report and explore pathways for practical implementation. Discussions focused on ensuring that global frameworks translate into measurable action on the ground, particularly in regions where exploitation remains widespread.

The Commissioners also met to discuss implementation, and agreed that Phase 2 will be structured around three key themes: Leadership, Practical Support, and Building the Evidence Base. The meeting also focused on identifying priority countries where the Commission can help drive regional momentum and on strengthening the Secretariat to ensure greater visibility and impact.
