Commission meeting in London
The Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking held its 8th meeting in London in April. Commissioners reflected on the shifting global context and political narrative, one year on from the launch of the Commission's report, and what it means for the Commission's work ahead.
Now into Phase 2, conversation focused on implementation of the report's recommendations. Commissioners discussed priority countries and the work already underway engaging with governments to encourage stronger modern slavery legislation. Commissioners also gave updates on efforts to drive meaningful corporate commitments on forced labour in supply chains.
Commissioners also took stock of the civil society landscape, acknowledging the acute pressures facing civil society organisations, the multilateral system and international NGOs at a time of significant funding constraints. Discussion focused on where the Commission can have real impact.
