Global Commission seeks stakeholder input on recommendations

The Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking convened a virtual stakeholder meeting in January 2025, to gather feedback on its emerging recommendations ahead of its report launch in April. Chaired by Baroness May, the meeting addressed key workstreams including national legislation, civil society in crisis contexts, and supply chains.

Commissioners raised definitions of modern slavery, effective implementation of international and national legislation, and effective due diligence in supply chains. Participants emphasised the importance of worker voice, ethical survivor leadership, addressing the gendered impact of slavery.

Key discussions centered on public procurement, emerging forms of modern slavery like forced criminality, and the role of data and technology in combating these crimes. Attendees also stressed the necessity of adequate resources for anti-trafficking efforts and the complexities of media disclosure. The Commission will use these discussions to refine its recommendations, focusing on practical implementation.
